Adham Bayoumi was born in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to an Egyptian family, spent seventeen years growing up in Dubai, and then moved to Boston for university. He was supposed to have a different career — a Division I soccer player whose ACL injury ended everything he had been building toward in sport. He turned to music in the aftermath. That's the origin of Bayou, and the music carries it: something about loss, rebuild, and the particular loneliness of moving between countries without ever planting roots.
He named his EP "Never At Home" — and wrote the thesis statement himself: "I am an Egyptian who never lived in Egypt — that's why I am NEVER AT HOME." In 2025, he performed at Coachella. That arc — from a blown ACL in a Boston dorm room to the Coachella stage — is one of the better stories in this lineup.
